Location

The 4 star Hotel Grande Italia is located in Chioggia, a charming old fishing village overlooking Venice's lagoon, renowned for having made Carlo Goldoni's play "Le Baruffe Chiozzotte” ("The Chioggia Scuffles") famous everywhere.

The hotel is situated in the quiet pedestrian area of Piazzetta Vigo, from which you can quickly reach the vaporetto stop. The vaporettos pass the island of Pellestrina and arrive at St. Mark's Square, in the heart of magnificent Venice.

Hotel Grande Italia's privileged position also allows you to discover Chioggia's historic center, with its old buildings, shops and typical restaurants, and of course the famous fish market, which puts an extraordinary variety of fresh fish on display every day.

Thursday morning the town center comes alive with its colorful market, the largest in the Veneto region. Once you're finished touring its stalls, we recommend a visit to the Church of San Giacomo to look at the beautiful frescoed ceiling by local painter Antonio Marinetti, known as il Chiozzotto.

Just outside the hotel you can see Vigo Bridge, built entirely of Istria Stone, and the Vigo Column, with its winged lion that has been jokingly called El Gato, the cat, in contrast with the "solemn" lion of Venice, the republic to which Chioggia's name is tied.

Venice

Venice is indescribable. A fairytale place located less than an hour from Chioggia. Reachable by boat or car, Venice leaves you speechless with its beautiful architecture, its museums and the extraordinary charm of its calli, or streets. From St. Mark's Square to Rialto, from the Fenice to the beautiful lagoon islands, one emotion after another will make you fall in love with this unforgettable city!

Start at Piazzetta Vigo and walk under the arcades of Corso del Popolo, the city's main artery, which is crossed by smaller streets and "accompanied" by three parallel canals – Lombardo, Vena and San Domenico – still sailed through by the old bragozzi, traditional lagoon fishing boats.

Continuing along the main street, you will arrive at the Chioggia Cathedral, decorated with paintings by Tiepolo and Piazzetta, while just a bit further on, you can visit the South Lagoon Civic Museum, rich with Roman archaeological findings and an exhibition of rare local naval objects, from the 1700s to today.
